About us

The Nailsea Concert Orchestra is a small orchestra whose members are local amateurs who enjoy playing classical and light music together.  Most of the members live in the Nailsea and North Somerset area; we welcome all players of any age who are able to commit to regular rehearsals.

There is no set standard for players joining us.  Our members have a wide range of playing ability, from Grade V through to post grade VIII.  An individual's ability is less important than their committment to rehearse regularly.  Our current vacancies can be found under the adjacent menu.

The orchestra aims to give at least two concerts each year.  We choose music which has strong tunes, and which is enjoyable to play and listen to, while remaining within our members' abilities to perform.

Our repertoire consists largely of classical orchestral works written for small orchestras.  Recent performances include symphonies by Haydn, Saint Saens, and Mozart; overtures by Rossini, Von Suppe, Vaughan Williams, Sullivan and Schubert; and incidental music such as Elgar's Chanson de Matin, Schubert's Rosamunde Suite,  and Butteworth's The Banks of Green Willow.   We also play a wide selection of light orchestral music by composers such as Gershwin and Coates.  Some recent programmes are listed under the adjacent menu.
